Background
Center Information
Born out of necessity, the Central Care Community Health Center was first conceived in 1992 to address the community’s loss of its most accessible source of primary health services. This gap in care, representing a loss of health services for approximately 200 individuals on any given day, occurred in 1991 when the Harris County Hospital District relocated the Martin Luther King clinic. Central Care Community Health Center is a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) which has been serving the Southeast area of Houston for more than 10 years. It serves two federally designated Medically Underserved Areas (MUAs) and Health Professional Shortage Areas.
Because it is the sole provider of health care for so many individuals in its service area, Central Care Community Health Center focuses much of its efforts on developing partnerships with other organizations throughout the City of Houston as well as Harris County so that the individuals it serves can be assured of receiving the most comprehensive array of healthcare and social services possible. Central Care Community Health Center has also established a track record for working with civic groups, and schools to set up diabetic hypertension and cholesterol screenings and immunizations.
